  1. I always remembered a wee interesting aside to that St Mirren Ne’erday match, all seven Killie goals were scored by players with Surnames beginning ‘M’. McIlroy (2), McInally (2), Mason, McLean and Murray. The sub editors would have had a field day!
  2. Liam’s heading to Wembley again! 👏👏❤️
  3. Even better from the camera behind the goals, Rory has always been a player!
  4. Jim Brown was an unused sub. Big Alan was the keeper. From memory, we’d the penalty shootout sown up pretty early, we’d scored our first 3 and they’d failed with their first two. Sam Maxwell scored the equaliser from the spot in time added on and about a minute later put us one up in the shootout - I reckon scoring two penalties against Rangers in around a minute at Ibrox will be a record. Bobby Street scored and did his wee roll and Jim Hughes also scored - I think we won the shootout 4-1. When we got back to the Clansman, no one believed we’d won.
  5. Scottish Cup v our County neighbours, 1994? scored on the break early on. Mc Skimming ran the length of the pitch to get on the end of an outside of the foot pass from Gus MacPherson.
  6. That’s sad; it was our home ground season 1971/72 when I played with Redburn Rovers.
  7. There were usually a couple of Killie fans in every year group when I taught at Hamilton Grammar, although I was the only teacher who was KTID.
  8. I played with West High and we wore these tops from 1976 for a couple of seasons. We got them because Tom Lauchlan’s son was on our committee. They had big blue numbers on the back.
  9. Tiny Wharton was the ref in that replay against the Dons; he was, as expected, absolutely atrocious!
  10. I agree with Cal about away fans in the home end. I was in the Main Stand in the Ayr end when Shaw scored the last minute penalty. I had to literally sit on my hands while the penalty was taken. I was quite close to the Killie fans and sat stoically while they celebrated. One fan, probably my kind of age, 60/70’s spent about a minute giving the V’s with both hands directly to us from about 10 yards away. As I texted my mates after the game “I’ve only been an Ayr fan for 90 minutes and I hate you Killie fans already”. 😉
  11. It was an excellent afternoon with Dougie Smith and Jim Laird, both ex referees and now observers. Obviously football is a game of opinions and we won’t all agree, but as Dougie says - the ref has the final say. Talking about the Laws of the game, showing the basics for determining when foul play has occurred, how serious it is considered to be and what actions the referee should take, both Jim and Dougie gave an enlightening and entertaining presentation. There were lots of pertinent questions asked and usually open and honest responses although because one or other of Jim or Dougie had been observers at some of the games involved in the questions, they could not speak on those individual points. There was a lot of time added on because ex refs are not experts on technology and had the board been held up it would have had 30 minutes on it. But both are used to presenting to groups, so they have plenty of anecdotes to hand to fill the spaces. All in all, it was a great afternoon and once again credit to Jordan, Ross, John, Anne, Elsie and all the others who work so hard to keep our group entertained!
  12. Billy Sinclair was an inside forward who played 10 games in 1968 and 1969. I thought he was pretty slow and ponderous. I remember he was initially chosen to replace Gerry Queen in the 1969/70 season but quickly lost his place to Ross Mathie. I’m sure Sinclair ended up playing Northern Ireland shortly after that.
  13. He also missed in the League Cup bonus point shoot out against Raith.
  14. When we made the top six in season 2017/18, we had to play both Rangers and Celtic away from home; in fact we never played a league game against Rangers at Rugby Park in 2018, just 3 games at Ibrox, resulting in a win, a loss and a draw. Two home games against the cheeks would make up for 2017/18.
  15. I’m a bit more concerned that the referee didn’t feel confident enough to enforce the rule.
  16. Right, so before the ball is kicked the keeper must stand on the goal line, facing the kicker. Then, as the ball is kicked, the keeper can react but at that time one foot must be on or behind the line. He cannot start 3 feet behind the line, then drive forward before the kick, allowing him to be technically behind or on the line as the ball is kicked but having extra momentum to try to make the save.
  17. Where did you check? In the IFAB’s law changes 2023/24 report, Law 14 ‘The Penalty Kick’ states “The defending goalkeeper must remain on the goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts, without touching the goalposts, crossbar or goal bet, until the ball is kicked”
  18. Yeah, the bit I quoted is 4 paragraphs earlier. Dickenson either doesn’t know the laws or was feart!
  19. The bit I quoted is 4 paragraphs earlier. Butland was told to move forward, refused and then the ref bottled it. Dickenson either wasn’t sure of the laws or was just feart!
  20. Should Butland not have been booked for refusing to stand on the goal line at the penalty? The laws states “The defending goalkeeper must remain on the goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts until the ball is kicked” Butland was told to move forward by Dickinson but refused and remained almost 3 feet behind the line. Obviously trying to gain impetus and also put Danny off.
  21. It was only Graham Grainger’s 5th Premiership game of the season. He is easily the most competent ref we’ve had this season. I remember he reffed a League Cup match at the beginning of last season and I was impressed with him then too.
  22. Great show, Dudu Sissoko was number 88, I think. He was also one of the players I loved even when he got a lot of abuse for his mental moments.
  23. What’s the point of that referee on Saturday? Absolutely none whatsoever!
